Kyoto Microcomputer started shipping exeGCC ver. 4
GCC ver. 4.3.x based cross compiler for ARM, MIPS, SH, and PowerPC
For immediate release:
Kyoto Japan, June 29, 2009:
Embedded debugging system and JTAG Emulator specialist Kyoto Microcomputer (KMC) today announced that exeGCC version 4 has been started shipping. exeGCC is a cross compiler for embedded processors running on Windows. It is easy to install by using installer as other Windows applications. The previous version of exeGCC is based on GCC 3.2.x, but for the new version is based on GCC 4.3.x. This upgrade of GCC base version enables to support more various kinds of CPUs. The exeGCC ver. 4 newly supports PowerPC and ARM v7 architecture on top of currently supported ARM architectures. It is required Windows XP and Windows Vista (32 bit only) as OS, and the OS required CPU and memory for the execution environment. The exeGCC ver. 4 is provided as a package for each CPU and the price is JPY148,000 (JPY155,400 with tax).
The users who has effective annual technical support contract can download the exeGCC ver. 4 from KMC's
download web site.
In the past, it was very complicated to prepare to use GCC such as building the data from the source and setup UNIX compatible environment into Windows. However, the setup for exeGCC is simple; just follow the setup Wizard. Also, with the new version, the users can work on Eclipse IDE. By open the project by Eclipse, the users can work with GUI. As you can see, the exeGCC ver. 4 is GCC and yet has very high affinity with Windows.
The new features of exeGCC ver. 4 are as follows;
* The GCC base version is upgraded to GCC ver. 4.3.x. This allows to support new CPU architectures such as ARM v6/v7 and SH2A/SH4A.
* Enhancement of interworking with Eclipse IDE.
* Coexistence of different exeGCC versions is possible.
In exeGCC ver. 4 package, GPL free libraries such as Embedded C/C++ library, floating point library and source codes are included. They are originally developed by KMC or using non-GPL license products. Some libraries are generated by using GCC included source, however, those are exception for GPL. Therefore, the software generated by exeGCC and included libraries will not applicable to GPL. KMC donates part of the profits from sales to FSF (The Free Software Foundation: Representative: Richard M. Stallman).
The following GPL free libraries are included;
* Embedded C/C++ library for each CPU
* Floating point library based on IEEE754
* VLINK support library
* Source codes for all included libraries
KMC will actively keep developing and supporting exeGCC and will provide the integrated development solution for embedded market from compiler, debugger, through performance analyzer.
